Abstract patterns have been used decoratively and symbolically in human artifacts throughout history. The five artists included in this exhibition use pattern-based abstraction to express deeper content that is literally embedded within the complex formal matrix. In their respective bodies of work, hidden meaning and order lie just below elaborate surfaces that are the products of rigorous technical processes.
